Owning an economic sedan is being tied to a dull and lifeless experience as time passes by. To no exemption, Mitsubishi falls on to this category. As years come, this car company tries to get away with that trend. Introducing the new 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer, known for its line of compact cars, this time, Mitsubishi make sure that this car stands out into the sea of low-priced sedans. Although its close proximity of resemblance is that of the Lancer Evolution and Ralliart, it is at this point that Lancer 2012 will catch its place at the top.

Just last year, the Lancer Sport-back body style had made Mitsubishi to consider expansion of its availability, and made it available also for the more affordable ES trim. For 2012, Mitsubishi is adding for a few improvements, bolstering its standing, but not that much. The new Lancer allows buyers to choose the mid-range engine with all-wheel drive. To go further, the new Lancer is adding soft-touch door panels, which addresses the public’s complaint of too much interior hard plastic.

The new 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer is a compact sedan which comes in DE, ES, SE, GT and Ralliart trim. The DE, which is the base, comes in with 16-inch steel wheels, a tilt-only steering wheel, has automatic headlights, armed with full power accessories, a trip computer and four-speaker sound system with a CD player. The ES comes in the same with the aforementioned but with the additional of some items and the incorporating of chrome-like accents, air-conditioning, cruise control, key-less entry, upgraded cloth upholstery, front and rear center armrests, a height-adjustable driver seat, steering-wheel audio controls and an auxiliary audio jack. It also packages an additional 16-inch alloy wheels to the ES trim together with disc brakes and a rear stabilizer bar.

On the side of SE trim, it gains a more powerful engine, all-wheel drive and Alloy Wheel package. The GT is just similar to the SE, but it is just a front-wheel-drive only and also adds an 18-inch alloy wheels, fog-lights, a sporty front fascia, a rear spoiler, key-less ignition, has automatic climate control, upgraded sport upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Bluetooth and a six-speaker sound system with a USB jack.

Regarding its power-trains and performance, the Lancer DE and SE are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 148 horse power and 145 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual is standard, while CVT is optional. The Lancer SE and GT are upgraded to a 2.4-liter that forms 168 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque. The CVT is standard on SE and an all-wheel drive which is the only choice for SE. the GT gets front-wheel drive and owns five-speed manual standard. The Rallliart features a turbocharged of 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces 237 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque. This powerfully gives the Ralliart a sizzling dash in 5.8 seconds.

Safety is not an issue at all. Standard safety is always a feature on all 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer which includes front-seat airbags, full-length head curtain airbags and a driver knee airbag. Also, an anti-lock brakes and stability control are standard on all, but the four-wheel disc brakes are standard exclusively only on the SE, GT and Ralliart, while the DE and ES trims are contented with the rear drum brakes.

Overall, the 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer is an alternative for those sports car enthusiasts, who prefer a more economical sedan.
