2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe an interloper in the sports-coupe arena
Seriously? Yeah, and you are reading it. Period. Hyundai, on the perspective of the crowd, has no racing history, and only produces, uhm, somewhat-not-good-looking cars. No, they are just producing normal cars and we are all under on that impression. Racing cars? Or somewhat like that? On Hyundai? For serious, but Hyundai is really serious. These things that bears the mark of “Hyundai” are on sale, since March, and the Genesis Coupe is a revelation, no pun intended. You see, the level of this coupe is compared to that of Ford Mustang v6 and Nissan 370Z. So what’s really the BIG mystery behind this vehicle?
STYLING
This car is a looker. Hyundai secretly kept bits of their old design on what works and chucked out stuff that didn’t. So it is noticeable that the lovely notched rear windows and the slashing side strakes remain, but the not-so-known front end gets a much-needed face lift.
That once-ironic smirk is now a full-on celebrity leer, framed by multifaceted projector headlamps. The design is undeniably striking. Although one can notice the shades of bits of the Ferrari and GT-R here, but the thing is still unique. Gorgeous!
INTERIOR
Hyundai didn’t mess up around the cabin either. The sunroof, large rear windscreen and side windows make the Coupe to be one of the claustrophobic vehicle on the market. Ergonomics is obvious and the stitched leather is everywhere. There is enough legroom and elbow room, to be compared to its many competitors, adults who are full-size can fit in the back, but beware, the headroom is tight. It may sound ironic, but hard plastics can still be found. The dash topper is actually a vinyl, cleverly molded and not hand-stitched leather, at the first impression. And the metallic rings around the center gauges may convince you completely but they too is made of plastic. But despite this, the cabin quality put other sports cars in shame for costing much more.
Some features
Although the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is not equipped with a touch-screen, it has a monochrome data display instead. It has lots of technologies embedded on it too, with blind-spot and parking sensors, a center stack gauges that displays torque, a thumping stereo system, and acceleration and oil temperature.
Hyundai is an interloper in the sports-coupe arena. Hyundai’s going way to the top starts here, in this engaging, well orchestrated Genesis Coupe, and this good start is critical.
