Lexus already featured its new 2013 RX, comes in three (3) trims namely; RX 350 , RX F Sport, and RX Hybrid. With sharply defined and dramatically angled lines, and a distinctive spindle grille, the 2013 RX shares many design cues with the current Lexus sedans. It also features standard 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels and can be outfitted with available 19-inch split-five-spoke alloy wheels.

Lexus RX got a 3.5-liter engine which delivers a robust 270 horsepower, and it does so on regular unleaded fuel. The V6 makes 90 percent of its peak torque available in a low rpm range for incredibly responsive power at all engine speeds. All the while providing greater fuel efficiency is a certified Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV II).

With the additional sixth gear, the wider gear-ratio spread provides greater acceleration, efficiency and seamless shifting. The RX also features an Intelligent Shift Control system that can estimate whether you are traveling uphill or downhill and automatically select the appropriate gear ratio for optimal engine response. A progressive electronic power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system on the RX senses the vehicle speed and automatically delivers the appropriate level of steering assistance. The result is greater fuel efficiency and steering feel. The RX also features a steering torque assist system that is designed to sense and respond when the vehicle is braking on a road with different levels of friction. For example, when braking with the left wheels on asphalt and the right wheels on snow, vehicles tend to deflect toward the higher-friction side due to the difference between the braking forces. By adding steering torque to balance the difference, vehicle control is enhanced.

With its stiff unibody construction and front and rear stabilizer bars significantly reduce body lean in corners and deliver overall ride quality like that of a luxury sedan. For greater agility and dynamic handling, the RX features a low center of gravity courtesy of a low powertrain, a fully independent MacPherson strut front suspension and a completely unique double-wishbone rear suspension that took 30 separate tuning sessions to develop. The system not only helps to improve roadhandling grip, it also intrudes less into the cargo area, freeing up floor space.

The RX also employs a Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system that optimizes both the intake and exhaust valve timing throughout the rpm range, according to engine and driving conditions. The system continuously monitors the engine’s speed and load to respond to the driver’s demands. This helps provide improved fuel efficiency, lower exhaust emissions and optimize power across all driving ranges. Torque is increased at lower speeds for better thrust. And power is boosted at higher speeds for better acceleration.

Lexus RX driver and front-seat passenger windows made from water-repellent glass help provide greater visibility during precipitation. Its rear spoiler on the RX diffuses the air flowing over the back of the vehicle, decreasing turbulence, creating a remarkably low coefficient of drag and increasing fuel efficiency. The power rear door of the RX offers remote, keyless access to the rear storage area. The lift–gate can be raised and lowered from inside the vehicle by using a switch or remotely with the included key fob.

Beyond these primary functions, the spoiler also houses an additional rear tail lamp and conceals the radio antenna and rear-window wiper for a sleeker appearance from behind. With Available sensors integrated into the front and rear bumpers help detect how close your vehicle is to surrounding objects. Audible warning tones and graphics in the multi-information console display and available navigation screen assist the driver in knowing the location and proximity of objects around the vehicle.

Another great feature of this new RX is the dynamic cruise control. This advanced system available on the RX is designed to adapt to traffic congestion by using radar technology to help maintain a pre-set following distance from the vehicle traveling in front of you. If you get too close, the throttle is automatically reduced and brakes are applied. Once the road clears, the RX will return to its pre-set speed.

Also equipped with a backing camera to make sure backing out of tight spaces and avoiding mishaps is much easier with the available backup camera. Using a tiny camera located above the rear license plate to capture a view of what’s behind the RX when placed in reverse, the camera’s view is displayed in full color on a screen within the rearview mirror or on the available Navigation System screen.

By using a unique secure code, the SmartAccess key fob automatically enables you to unlock and open all four of the vehicle’s doors and its available power rear door without removing the key fob from your purse, pocket or briefcase. As soon as the sensors detect your SmartAccess key fob, the door unlocks when you touch the handle. SmartAccess even activates the lighting entry system to illuminate your points of entry from the exterior puddle lamps to the interior lights. Once inside, it just takes a push of the button to start the engine.
The RX comes equipped with a highly advanced voice-recognition system that offers a much higher recognition rate than conventional systems. With this technology, placing compatible Bluetooth enabled phone calls and operating commonly used features like climate control and audio is remarkably simple.

With the available Navigation System, voice-recognition technology is taken to new heights with voice command. One of the most tested voice-recognition systems, voice command enables you to place compatible Bluetooth enabled phone calls and operate climate, audio and navigation functions using normal, everyday speech. If you say, “It’s too hot in here,” for example, the climate control will automatically lower the temperature by four degrees. “Call Steve at work” will be met with just that. And, if you say, “Show me Chinese restaurants,” from the destination menu, the navigation screen will display locations in your surrounding area.

Also present in RX the voice-activated Navigation System which utilizes a high–resolution eight–inch LCD placed close to eye level to help you remain focused on the road. An intuitive interface was also developed to display a linear progression of your commands as you use different functions within the system. Featuring voice command, an advanced voice–recognition system, you can search for destinations using your natural speaking voice and phrasing. “Show me Chinese restaurants,” from the destination menu, for example, will display locations in your immediate vicinity. And once a destination is selected, the system will calculate up to three different routes and provide audible and visual directions as you drive.
Not only that, heads-up display system is already been applied to the RX which can project simple navigation directions, audio information and vehicle speed onto the windshield in front of you, so you can spend more time focused on the road ahead. Unlike other Heads-up Display systems that provide intersection names, requiring the driver to locate street signs, the navigation directions on the system in the RX are provided using a countdown of the remaining distance before an action needs to be taken and an animated arrow that guides you intuitively through turns.

When there’s safety. Then there’s Lexus safety. That’s why the RX has features to help protect you before, during or after an accident. This is the luxury of confidence. This is the pursuit of 360 Degrees of Safety in the RX.

The class-leading Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) in the RX includes front seat-mounted side airbags that provide a larger protection area than conventional side airbags. A driver’s dual-stage airbag deploys at one of two speeds, depending on factors like crash severity and driver’s seat-track position. And the front passenger’s dual-stage, twin-chamber airbag uses occupant weight and crash-severity sensors to monitor its deployment. Also included are front and rear roll-sensing side curtain airbags, outboard rear seat-mounted airbags and driver’s and front passenger’s knee airbags.

The 2013 RX has a front-mounted millimeter-wave radar sensor on the available Pre-Collision System (PCS) constantly monitors the distance and closing speed of a vehicle traveling ahead. When the system’s computer determines that a frontal collision is unavoidable, the PCS preemptively retracts the front seatbelts and preps the Brake Assist for increased braking pressure the moment the driver steps on the brake pedal.

Stepping on the brake pedal quickly and forcefully during an emergency situation activates the four-sensor, four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist. Once activated, the system provides supplemental braking power if the driver does not apply enough pressure to the pedal. And to help provide even greater control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) modulates the amount of fluid pressure distributed to the front and rear brakes.

For additional peace of mind, this safety feature is designed to automatically reduce engine power when the driver is pressing down the accelerator and brake pedals at the same time under certain conditions. When the brake pedal is released, the Smart Stop Technology disengages. The feature does not engage if the brake pedal is pressed before the accelerator.
The RX is built with a welded-steel unibody frame, strong box-section, side-impact door beams and impact-dissipating front and rear crumple zones. As a result of information gathered during the 233 crash tests performed on the RX during development, reinforcements to the roof, roof header, floor, crossmembers and the A-pillar help provide increased buckling strength and enhanced load sustainability when buckled, helping to reduce the deformation of the cabin in the event of certain severe collisions.
